Issues

I will update this page as I hear more feedback from constituents about the issues that are most important to them. Don’t see what you’re looking for, or would like to give me some feedback? Please send me a message so I can answer any questions that you have! Just click here.

Roads and Infrastructure

One thing that all Topekans agree on: We need to fix our streets. If elected, I will support the use of scientific, data-driven methods to improve our roads. I will urge the city to focus on streets that need the most attention first, while maintaining current roads that are in good condition.

I also believe that we should give Topekans a choice in how they travel. As we improve roads, we should use best practices and proactive strategic planning to incorporate alternative modes of transportation, including walking, biking, and public transportation.

Supporting Businesses

As a small business owner, I know the importance and power of supporting local, small businesses. As such, I strongly support a holistic economic development model, based on national best practices, that has a heavy emphasis on cultivating and supporting local small businesses and entrepreneurs.

Additionally, I believe the city should proactively use available economic development tools to encourage urban infill and redevelopment of existing properties in the city.

Crime

I support the current community-oriented policing efforts being implemented by the Topeka Police Department. This approach is vital in the long and necessary process of building trust and respect between the community and law enforcement officers, and provides an opportunity for engagement outside of times of crisis.

Civic Ownership and Pride

If elected to city council, I would work to more actively engage everyday Topekans in the process of Topeka’s development.

Additionally, I would work to foster a sense of community pride in the improvements we are making as a community, while continuing to work diligently on current and future problems. Civic pride builds community, encourages support of local businesses, and gives each citizen a sense of ownership in the future of their city.

Increasing Our Population

In order to have a thriving economy, Topeka needs more people living in our community. To encourage population growth, I support investing in affordable housing, infrastructure enhancements, and quality of life improvements throughout the community.
